The Learn-Lean ValueGame Skateboard Factory teaches employees and management the application of different Lean methods in an entertaining manner. The aim of ValueGames is the transfer of experiences from game situations to daily practice. Active playful learning induces thought processes and a change in the perception of Lean methods.
In a pleasant
playful atmosphere you assembly small-volume components with high
variant mix. The game offers the opportunity to practice different Lean
methods under workshop and flow production conditions.
Value Games
increase the acceptance of future Lean activities in the company.
40 skateboards, tools, areas for staging, waste, incoming and outgoing goods, as well as a short manual are sorted in a high-quality facilitator's toolcase.
The Skateboard Factory purposely follows the subject of a small-scale series instead of mass production. Different production strategies are acted out in three game rounds with 7 - 15 participants. The participants are confronted persistently with changing game situations and every new round starts with an improved workflow. On completion of every round the facilitator asks
several questions
concerning the game situations to test the knowledge of the
participants.
Typical questions are, for instance:
- Where makes FIFO sense?
- How do you calculate the customer takt?
- Why is "Just in Sequence" so important?
- What are the advantages of single piece flow?
- What are the disadvantages of a PUSH system?
- How can you identify bottlenecks?
- What are the functions of production or improvement
managers?
- How do you calculate the first pass yield?
- How are lead and process times determined?
- How do you create a flow-capacity diagram?
Diverse workstations are set up on available tables. Participants can perform the assembly operations in sitting or standing position. The filigree parts require a steady hand and great skill. The assembly of one
skateboard takes about 8 - 10 Min. corresponding to a work content of about 30 - 40 Min. under realistic conditions. Modifying the assembly strategy you will succeed in a massive reduction of assembly
time and experience the effect of a Lean production personally. Quality aspects play an important role; quality problems are revealed directly by the FPY rate.
