The Learn-Lean Gemba Board is a practice-oriented tool for value stream data collection on site. With a size of W x H 33 x 52 cm (approx. 13 x 20.5 inch) and a weight of less than 500 g it is very easy to handle, portable, extremely light, and intended for the use of Value Magnets.
During on-site inspections in the production and assembly hall you attach the Value Magnets sequentially to the Gemba Board. Subsequently you transfer the Value Magnets from the Gemba Board to a Value Board to discuss the records and abnormalities in team meetings.
Stored in a convenient semi-transparent transport bag, very light as well, the Gemba Board represents an ideal accessory for Learn-Lean Value Magnets.
Substantially, the value stream method is segmented into three phases: current state analysis, future state design, and implementation. In order to obtain a proper description of the current state, the collection of information in the first phase is crucial. Data and facts are most essential for all Lean activities.
It is thus very important to record a given situation on-site by oneself. The Gemba Board functions here as a mobile device for work with Value Magnets.
It makes no sense to develop a value stream exclusively in a meeting room. Without detailed knowledge of the situation in the "Gemba" (on-the-spot - shopfloor) all data remain hypothetical. So you should collect all relevant informations on-site and transfer them to the mobile Gemba Board.
Following the on-site inspection you transfer the collected data to a Value Board. Elaborate your records again and optimize the presentation of the value stream during discussion and debriefing of striking features seen on-site.
